Here the Romans
simulated naval battles. With its buildings perfectly aligned on the
old steps, piazza Navona kept the shape of the naval theatre. From the
"Rennaissance", the old stage becomes the center of the city. The
powerful Pamphili family establishes her residence there while the
place is the theatre where ravels the Roman company. Happens there: the
popular market, the passage of fit with body the noble ones, "chefs
d'oeuvre" of barocal art are built there.
Here were held of the challenges
in all kinds: box, poetry, athletics. As almost all the places intended
for the entertainment of the Romans, it was surrounded of taverns and
brothels. The prostitutes of luxury aroused the customers by exposing
paintings which explained their specialities. The slaves, on the other
hand, were exposed naked for the possible customers. These humiliations
touched even Sainte Agnes, which is precisely dedicated the church
raised by Borromini.
