Piazza del campidoglio (Place of the
capitol hill), 2005
The
place of Capitole is altered
since 1564 on a project of Michel-Angel. In spite of the modifications
of Giacomo della Porta, the unit carries the print of Michel-Angel. The
palates which frame the place have a very complex structure, still
mannerist. The colossal order of the pilasters, which embraces the two
stages, is an innovation which the style baroque ensures a long
descent.

Piazza di Spagna (Place of
Spain), 2005
The fountain of
Barcaccia, heart of the irregular place Piazza di Spagna finishes the
visual space of the street of Babuino. Splendid, the large staircase of
the Trinity of the Mounts converges towards the fountain, creation of
Pietro Bernin. The need for creating a connection between the French
church of the Trinity of the Mounts and the subjacent zone had often
been smelled but had always met the opposition of the popes, not very
inclined to recognize the strong presence of France. With the
XVIII° century it was not possible any more to differ creation from
it when all the zone felt great development determined by the presence
of the port of Ripetta. Francesco De Santis, young architect being
appropriate as well to the Pope with French. De Santis carried out the
connection by a spectacular theatrical scenography: the staircase goes
down from the church as a travertine cascade and converges towards the
fountain of Barcaccia, from where the street of Condotti starts which
arrived at the zone of the port under unclaimed.

Piazza
Farnese (Place Farnese), 2005
Since 1874, the
Farnèse palate is the seat of the embassy of France near the
Italian government. In the XVIe and the XVIIe century, it was several
time residence of the ambassadors of kings de France attached to the
court of Rome. It is to say to which point history relations between
Rome, Italy and France is related to this monument of which
construction, decoration and the function have represented on the Roman
ground, for soon four centuries, a stake which was never indifferent...

Piazza
Venezia, Monumento a
Vittorio Emanuelle II
The "Vittoriano", enormous monument
which dominates Piazza Venezia, owes its name to the king in honor of
which it was built: Victor Emmanuel II, first king of Italy. Realized
by Giuseppe Sacconi at the beginning of the XX° century, he is
among the monuments most discussed of the city, appreciated by
tourists, scorned by major the part of Roman criticism because of his
forms, of the choice of the marbles, and also of his dimensions.
